Where the run starts

On a residential street called Candy Lane, the husbands and fathers leave for work and stay away for eight hours. A flag raised in a window means the women of the street need help, and a plumber follows the flags. He is a capable man with a toolbox, a local reputation and a modest wish to do good work. Harriet, the wife of his brother, wants a leak fixed in her kitchen, and she wants something more from the visit than a fitting. She says his brother is not good with his hands.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the leaking pipe is soaked, the two of them are laughing at the mess, and she invites him to look after her as well. Halfway through the second, she steps away and comes back with two neighbors, Mrs. Vance and Mrs. Morello, kept waiting since early morning. They explain that every wife on the lane gets a turn, and Harriet announces she will go first while the others watch.
