Where the run starts

Late on an evening at the Hartley house, a married man finds Mila Nowak still in the hallway, calling a cab after her date fails to show. Mila is a grown woman with an apartment across town, a bruised evening and a clear idea of the kind of man she would rather have around. He is polite, tired and married, and he offers to drive her himself. He wants to be decent; she wants to learn how far decent goes.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the ride has become an invitation: Mila asks him up to her place for two minutes, and he, citing the hour and a person waiting at home, goes along anyway. Two episodes in, she steps away to change into the outfit meant for her cancelled date and comes back wearing it. He says it looks nice while his mind is on someone else's name. Mila tells him that his wanting is mutual with hers, and now the attraction is out in the open while his answer is not.
