Where the run starts

On a Monday morning in a polished London office, the boss's personal assistant runs his diary with brisk certainty and expects him to be lost without her. A new temp, Harriet, arrives the same day, nervous, self-deprecating and sure that everybody around her is prettier. The boss, who was about to suggest a dinner to his assistant, meets Harriet and drops that plan. Harriet wants to get through the day without embarrassing herself. The boss wants to show her around personally. The assistant wants to keep her place, and notices every glance.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the boss has set aside the nine o'clock meeting and the paperwork in favor of a personal tour, and Harriet has fumbled her admiration for the company into a confession of sorts. Two episodes in, the assistant and a colleague trade sharp remarks outside the supply room, convinced the new arrival is a passing distraction. Halfway through the second, Harriet asks for a black T-shirt, swears in front of her employer, and he says the result suits her.
