Where the run starts

Deep in a wood, on a night when the sky seems intent on drowning him, a lost traveler pushes open the door of an isolated chapel and asks to wait out the storm. Two nuns live there, and both are delighted. One is brisk and practical about getting him out of his wet clothes; the other is a little embarrassed and a little curious. Neither has had a man to look after for three years and eight months, a figure they know exactly. He wants shelter and a dry bed. They want company, and they have a plan.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, he has a borrowed gown, a dinner waiting and two hosts who list their prayers, from endangered whales to world peace, before mentioning that something is planned for him. Two episodes in, he asks what that is and receives answers that amount to nothing. One sister says she was praying for him, the other that she was brainstorming. Halfway through the second, he goes to bed with an invitation to ring the bell for anything.
