Where the run starts

On a sunny morning at a rally for sea turtles, Cole leans on his car horn and pulls up beside his stepsister Kayla, who is holding a sign. Their mother and his father are away all week, and his orders are to look after her, an instruction he enjoys more than she does. Kayla wants him to know she is not interested, and she tells her friend Tess the same thing. Cole wants to see how long that lasts.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the car ride has gone badly. She hands him a bottle of water when he catches himself staring, and then admits to Tess that the whole ride was strangely cute. Halfway through the second, he is asking her to do the dishes before their parents return, striking a bargain: load the dishwasher, and he takes her to the beach club that night. He then hands her an outfit for the evening, which she wears with misgivings.
