Where the run starts

At the start of a week-long stay at a family house, Ethan arrives with his new girlfriend to meet her father, Richard, and Richard's partner Holly. Ethan wants to make a good impression and settle into a holiday. Richard wants his household to unwind after weeks of overwork, and he has a looser idea of fun than Ethan expected. Holly, confident and used to being noticed, does not mind the glances. A swimsuit, a glass of water and an unspoken dare are the details that set the week in motion.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, Ethan has been caught looking and has apologized, only to hear Richard say that he takes it as a compliment and then ask a very direct question about his partner. Halfway through the second, Richard has laid out the terms: follow the rules, keep his daughter in the dark and enjoy the game. Ethan gives his word. Sent to bring Holly some water, he spills it, apologizes at length and is told that accidents happen, while she goes off to change.
