Where the run starts

On the first evening of a week by a lake, a newly engaged couple arrives at the house of his fiancee's mother. Jake is engaged to Sophie and has not yet shown the ring to Sophie's mother, Veronica Parker, in person. Veronica is easy and direct, teases him about what she has heard, and announces that dinner is in twenty minutes. Jake wants to make a good impression on his future family. Sophie wants a calm week with the two people she loves. Veronica wants to find out what kind of man her daughter has chosen.

Episodes 1 and 2

Two episodes in, Sophie has hurried off on a work matter, leaving him alone with Veronica, who asks for a hand with a stretch. Halfway through the second, she says she is heading for the shower and he may follow if he wishes.
