Where the run starts

On a quiet afternoon in a suburban house where he has been sent on an errand, a man arrives to find that the friend he came to see is out. His best friend's stepmother, Veronica, is at home, calm and self-assured, and he is nervous about being alone with her. Holly, who comes by for a Pilates session, brings her own playful energy and a competitive streak. Each woman wants his attention, and each is amused by the idea of winning it. The two have a standing habit of betting on outcomes.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, Holly has set up a wager that he will end up with her first, Veronica has accepted it, and he has been talked into staying for the workout, still in street clothes. Two episodes in, the session is under way, and they ask him to help with sore backs and shoulders while the women trade pointed remarks about each other. A joking argument about who is more impressive pulls him into the middle of a comparison he did not plan for.
