Where the run starts

On the first day of a move into his girlfriend Chloe's family house, Jake carries his bags through the front door expecting a polite introduction and an easy settling-in. Instead he meets Dana, Chloe's stepmother, a grown woman who runs the household with relaxed confidence and a house rule that nothing is kept hidden. Chloe wants the move to go smoothly. Dana wants to see how Jake behaves when he is off balance. Jake wants to stay out of trouble in a home that is not yet his.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, an encounter in the bathroom has left Jake flustered, and Chloe's reaction suggests she knew more about her stepmother than she had let on. Two episodes in, Chloe sits him down to explain a family tradition involving her, her boyfriends and Dana, and Dana arrives to supervise with a patient smile, two rules and a countdown of two minutes. Halfway through that second episode a gift chosen by someone else raises the stakes again.
