Where the run starts

On the evening of an exclusive gala, Amanda learns that her husband is stuck at work again and refuses to walk into her own event alone. Her adult stepson is at home finishing a video game when she sends him to put on his father's suit and come along as her plus one. Amanda wants a smooth night and a convincing husband. Her stepson wants to be left alone with his game. At the venue, other guests assume the two are married and comment on how fond he looks.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the pretending has gone on for hours, with Amanda sending him pointed reminders about where he looked and counting how many times, then leading him to a hotel room that his father booked for the two of them. Two episodes in, she tells him to keep pretending, says his father can have the dress back tomorrow and invites him to undo it. He protests that she is his father's wife, and she answers that his father is working all night.
