Where the run starts

With the father away on a work trip until Thursday, a large house holds two adults: his wife and his grown son from an earlier marriage. The stepson arrives a day early, and his stepmother has already given him the room across the hall, which means they share a bathroom. She is in charge for the week and says so. He wants to behave himself. She wants him to notice that she has noticed him looking for years.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the shared bathroom has done its work. He walks in without knocking, sees her unready, and she tells him calmly that he used to turn red and run, while now he stays and watches. Halfway through the second, he is at her door and she invites him in, though he says she is his stepmother. She says she knows who she is. Then his father's call comes in on the phone, and she says to leave it unanswered.
