Where the run starts

On an evening at home, Nina has dressed for a dinner with her husband and then learns he has canceled and gone to work instead. His adult son Evan walks in, surprised to see her in an elegant dress, and she tells him that the food her husband left at home is going to waste. Evan privately believes the dress could ruin him, and he says so aloud, thinking he is alone, only for Nina to hear him. Nina wants some attention after being stood up. Evan wants to stay out of trouble.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, Nina has told him that she heard every word and wonders if he enjoyed the view, adding that he should do so before she takes it off. Halfway through the second, Evan protests that she is his stepmother, and Nina asks whether the problem is that she is, or that someone might catch them. He stumbles over an answer and tells her he no longer knows.
