Where the run starts

On the first day of a family holiday abroad, a woman falls ill and stays in her room, blaming the prawns, while her husband and her daughter Harriet, a woman of twenty-three, are left to enjoy the resort. The mother asks her husband to keep Harriet entertained and says she knows her daughter is in good hands. Harriet is nervous and has her own idea of entertainment. Her stepfather wants to be a reliable husband and a decent stepfather, and a week of poolside afternoons does not help him. Harriet wants his attention, starting with sunscreen on her back.
