Where the run starts

At the start of a month-long stay, a gymnast arrives at her sister's home to prepare for the biggest competition of her season, three weeks off. She is twenty-two, very sure of herself and cheerfully aware of how she is looked at. Her sister's boyfriend, who shares the house and has only just met her, tries to be polite. Each morning she stretches in her bedroom during her sister's workday, and she asks him to help. She wants a win and some attention; he wants a calm month and keeps failing to get one.

By the close of the first episode, the stretching has become a daily habit and she has noticed that he enjoys it. She tells him that she will not mention to her sister how good he is at it. Two episodes in, she proposes a game in which he judges her routine from one to ten. The scoring runs high and a warm-up runs slow. Halfway through the second, her sister comes home and asks how the training is going, and he answers with the careful vagueness of someone being watched.
