Where the run starts

Three weeks on from a night with a stranger he cannot forget, a man walks into his girlfriend's family home for a first dinner with her parents. She tells him to relax and promises that her mother will love him. He is nervous until the mother walks in, offers to fetch wine and turns out to be the woman from that night. He wants a clean start with his girlfriend. The mother wants to keep what she has found. She is composed, her husband Frank is somewhere in the house.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the mother has taken him aside in the kitchen, named her terms and left him with a choice between keeping her daughter and keeping her quiet. Two episodes in, Frank has come home asking for the good scotch, the girlfriend is teasing her mother for monopolizing him, and the man is the only person at the table who understands what is going on. A late invitation to her room closes the second episode just as he stops arguing.
