Where the run starts

Ten days before the wedding, the fiancée of a man's son moves into the family home until the ceremony. Her future father-in-law, Mark, is a husband and father in his fifties who has been told by his wife to give honest opinions about the dress. The fiancée wants a verdict on everything from a rehearsal-dinner outfit to the fit of a zipper, and she wants it from him alone. His wife stays close, always one room away, and his son keeps working late and leaves messages for his mother.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, Mark has said the dress is not too short, adding that his son has little experience of a woman like her, and she has asked him to come to the final fitting tomorrow night for the real gown. Halfway through the second, the florist has an emergency, and she asks for his help with a garter and a hem, then asks him whether his son deserves her in it. He answers no, and asks the same question back to her.
