Where the run starts

At nine on a weekday morning, a house is quiet except for the door being left unlocked. Jake, who has broken both hands, cannot manage even the simplest daily tasks, so his wife has arranged for a home nurse from an agency and leaves for work, joking that the nurse will be a woman in her sixties. Jake wants to get through the recovery without fuss. His wife wants him looked after and expects the day to be uneventful. The person who arrives is Mila, who is neither what the agency described nor in any hurry to explain.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, Mila has gone from stranger to the one person Jake depends on for everything, and she is plainly aware of it. Two episodes in, his wife calls from work to ask whether the nurse has come and whether she is nice, and Jake answers carefully. Halfway through the second, the call is over, the evening return time is fixed at seven, and the hours before it are still long.
