Where the run starts

In a lecture hall on an ordinary afternoon, a professor named Bree Whitlock notices that the man in the front row has spent the whole hour watching her rather than the board. She is a composed adult woman in charge of the room. He is an adult man who has failed to focus and does not know how to stop. She tells him to stay behind, and he agrees. He wants to pass the retake, and he has little defense against her attention.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, she has told him that the retake is tomorrow with everyone, and offers a private lesson at nine that evening, just the two of them. Halfway through the second, he arrives late and she has him read a line of verse aloud while she tells him not to look away. She mentions a husband who believes she is marking papers, and that discovery would cost her everything. Then she tells him the real lesson begins and that she wants to hear one answer.
