Where the run starts

In a therapist's office, a grown woman named Kenzie Whitaker explains that she cannot stop thinking about her stepsister's fiancé, who stays under her mother's roof. She wants to be rid of the fixation and to understand why it has such a hold. The therapist, calm and patient, asks her to say what happened and to start from the beginning. The recollections come out in order: a drive along a pine road, a joke about sharing cars and roads, and a stepsister named Eva who remarks that stepsisters share.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the account has reached the point where Eva asks her fiancé a pointed question about Kenzie, and Kenzie realizes that nobody is surprised. Halfway through the second, the account moves to a shower with fogged glass, a door that was opened a little wider and a night that does not fit in her head. The session turns back to the present when Eva appears and asks whether she wants him.
