Room 742 walks through one night at a hotel where a worn-out traveler and a silent stranger are given the same door. Five episodes follow how they share the space, who knows more than they say and what a front desk that offers no help makes possible. The mood is awkward, playful and slow-burning.

Where the run starts

Late in the day, after twelve hours in the same clothes and a start before five in the morning, a traveler reaches her hotel and slides her keycard into the door of room 742. The light turns green, and a man is already inside. Both are adults who want the same things: a night of rest and an explanation. She phones the front desk and learns that nothing can be done until later. He says nothing at all. The room, the card, the bathroom door and the long quiet between them are everything the story has to work with.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, she has decided to treat the situation as a mild nuisance, tells him not to be weird and goes to change while he stays quiet on the other side of the door. Halfway through the second, the front desk confirms that they are stuck sharing, the stranger still declines to give his name, and she answers by choosing one for him. The episode closes with his silence unbroken and her curiosity louder than her annoyance.
