Where the run starts

In a quiet house on an evening when her husband phones to say his deal will keep him away a few more days, Amanda Langford replies that it is fine, as it always is. Soon a new neighbor knocks, short of sugar, a working light bulb and dignity, and she finds him a bulb. Amanda is lonely and wants to be noticed again; the neighbor is relaxed and observant. She starts a voicemail to her friend Sarah about him, then decides it is nothing. A borrowed bathroom, a light bulb and a mailbox are the small details that matter.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the neighbor has praised her gift for putting people at ease and has called her by name, and she has asked how he knew it. Halfway through the second, he explains that the name was on the mailbox, though she suspects something else. Sarah urges her to have fun with him, adds that Amanda's husband has cheated for years and recalls that someone once told her the truth, never learning who. Then the question arrives: what if the neighbor is that person?
