Where the run starts

Under a hot afternoon sun, at a coffee shop where the machine will not accept a bigger tip, a man spends his day fending off attention from the staff and the regulars. His father is away on business of his own. Colette Ramsey is the woman his father is dating: charming, carefree, quick with a remark and not interested in pretending she has failed to notice him. He wants an easy afternoon without complications. She seems to want the same, with a little company added.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the counter scene has shown that he is easy to read and easy to tease, and that the other customers have firm views on who flirts for money. Halfway through the second, he has left the coffee shop and run into Colette in the car park, where she jokes that she would probably follow him too if she were not seeing his father. She tells him to get in. Her last remark is that his father will not be back for hours.
