Where the run starts

On an ordinary evening at a house in the city, Emma, a grown woman with a settled life and a steady relationship, goes looking for her boyfriend Ryan and finds him upstairs with her best friend. Emma has trusted both people for years. She wants answers and an apology, and she is in no mood to hear it was a misunderstanding. Ryan wants the incident to shrink to nothing. Mia, the friend, answers with a single careless word. A staircase, a bedroom door and the morning after set the shape of the opening.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, Emma has seen enough, and the friendship she relied on is over in a single scene. Two episodes in, Ryan blames drink and says Mia made the first move, insisting nothing meant anything. Mia checks on Emma as if nothing happened, warning her that a scene will get her nowhere because nobody will believe her. Emma replies that Mia can have him, since he is what she deserves.
