Where the run starts

On the eve of a tournament in a royal court, a prince is about to marry Princess Maren the next day, and Antonella, his step-cousin, has spent four days in the saddle to get there first. She is courteous, amused and unembarrassed. Maren is the bride her father chose for him. The prince wants a clean, dignified ceremony. Antonella wants to be remembered, and she has not forgotten their nights in the family home and wants him again.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the champion has chosen where to give his ribbon, and the court is staring at him, while Antonella tells him she will find him at the feast, and that he is free to leave Maren seated at the feast. Two episodes in, the feast is under way, Maren says she may come to his door the night before the wedding, and Antonella tells him that she has come to see whether he will let his father keep him from her. Halfway through the second, they stand behind a curtain while the cups are full.
