Where the run starts

For one week at a desert estate, Dana is hoping to impress her boss and come home as a vice president, and she brings her fiance Jake with a simple instruction to stay invisible. The owner, Marcus Voss, receives them with a welcome and an appraising look, and his wife Vanessa promises to take good care of the guest. Jake is out of his depth, polite and worried about doing harm to Dana's chances. Marcus wants to know something about him, and he asks to talk alone, away from the women, by the fire pole.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, Marcus has put one question to Jake and made clear that he is not in trouble. Two episodes in, Marcus explains that this is a game he plays with guests every year, sets three conditions, and tells Jake that his wife picked him before he left the car. Soon afterward he is alone with Vanessa, who has her own view of the situation and warns that being sweet is dangerous here, while Dana remains unaware.
