She's Not Real

Where the run starts

Late one night in a dim room, a man puts on a virtual-reality headset for the first time and finds himself in front of a menu of ready-made fantasies. A strict boss, a girl next door, a friend's mother, a gamer and others are offered like items on a list. Mila, the guide who presents the options, is not one of them. The man wants to see how far the technology goes. Mila wants him to keep his attention on the rules of her world.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, he has ignored the menu and chosen her instead, and she replies that this dream is hers to run and she cannot be picked. A sudden urge to leave follows. Two episodes in, he is back inside, looking for a woman he had picked, and is told that she is unavailable. Mila steps forward instead, says she knows he is watching, and offers a single night on her own terms, with the warning that he will have to keep up.
