Where the run starts

On a forest road at the edge of the Blackwood, a hunting party turns back and leaves Ser Garrick alone with a stranger. He is a bastard knight, he has seven days to take the crown, and only two of the seven lords he needs have knelt so far. Five refuse, and the queen regent would rather see another man crowned. The stranger is a witch who claims she can deliver the rest. She knows his name, his ambition and the stable work behind his knighthood, and she wants something specific in return.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, the witch has named her terms for the first lord: Garrick comes to her at moonrise, and a lord kneels by dawn. Two episodes in, he has come back and the arrangement is explicit, one night for each remaining lord, five lords and five nights. She asks for him, not his soul. Halfway through the second episode, riders sent by the queen regent are already searching the wood, and Garrick sends his squire off in the wrong direction rather than end the bargain.
