Where the run starts

Well after midnight on a deserted road, a lone driver is waved down by a woman with a bleeding wound and a dead phone. She says another driver offered her a ride, grew insistent, and she ran. She refuses police, saying they cannot help her, and asks him to guard her until dawn instead. He agrees to find a motel up the road and to stay beside her. The man is unaware that her interest in him runs deeper than gratitude.

Episodes 1 and 2

By the close of the first episode, they are heading toward the motel together, with her safe in his car and him responsible for her. Two episodes in, they check in, he asks for separate rooms, and an exchange at the front desk makes clear the clerk thinks he is lucky. Halfway through the second episode, she tells him he smells like the road and something warmer underneath, and he admits he is married. She dismisses vows as a concern of those expecting to live forever, and the scene turns on what happens to a man who finally lets her close.
